The Providence Project: Service, Community, Spirituality: June 4 through June 16, 2023

Have you ever had an experience that touched your heart and changed your life? Well, here's one.

The Providence Project is a summer service program in Mosses, Alabama that happens June 4 through June 16, 2023.

Young adult volunteers live together in community with Sisters of Divine Providence and work with children in an educational summer camp. We’ll build in time for community, prayer, and, of course, fun! We’ll also visit some of the historical sites in Selma and Montgomery, Alabama to learn more about the civil rights movement and racial justice in our own time.

Do something fun and meaningful this summer -- meet cool people, do some good, and nurture your spirit.

The Not-so-fine Print:

Here’s everything you need to know about The Providence Project! (Or, if not, please contact us and we’ll tell you more!)

Requirements: Young adults who have a desire to serve and deepen their spirituality, as well as an ability to work with kids and live in community, are welcome to apply for the Providence Project.

Financial arrangements: Volunteers can either travel with the group or provide their own transportation to Mosses, AL, but once they’re there, food and board will be covered.

Living arrangements: Volunteers live simply in a community house with other volunteers and a few Sisters of Divine Providence. There will be shared living space, including some of the bedrooms. We’ll take pandemic precautions, and volunteers will need to be vaccinated against COVID-19 (that’s a requirement of the organization that runs the camp).

Service length: The summer camp runs June 5th to June 15th, Monday through Thursday. On the weekend in between we’ll have time to explore Selma and Montgomery and relax a bit too.

Application process: Please fill out this application: https://tinyurl.com/ProvidenceProject. You’ll also need a letter of recommendation, and your reference can send it to Sister Leslie Keener, CDP at vocation@CDPKentucky.org. Once we receive your application and letter of rec, we’ll contact you to talk with you about the program and get to know you a bit. Applications are due by May 1st.

For questions or for more info, please contact Sister Leslie Keener, CDP 859-441-0700 ext. 22 or vocation@CDPKentucky.org.

“Abandonment to Providence disposes us to live in this world like pilgrims having no fixed abode, in total trusting dependence on God for all that we need; to go where we are sent; to adapt to circumstances in the grace of the present moment without worry or overeagerness; and in the face of difficulty to do calmly what depends on us and leave the rest to God. ”
